Cyanide in Water Emergency Test Kit allows the average person to quickly test for the presence of dissolved cyanide in water.  The test detects dissolved cyanide concentrations between 0.2 ppm and 1,700 ppm, takes very little time to perform, and costs very little.

  • 2 Tests per Kit

  • Detection Range of Between 2ppm and 1,700ppm

  • Presence/Absence Test

  • No Meters or Lab Equipment Required

Where does cyanide come from and how would it get into the water?  While cyanide occurs naturally in the environement (apple seeds, peach pits, etc.), it usually does so in low enough concentrations that no one needs to worry about it.  When environmental scientists find pockets of dissolved cyanide in greater concentrations they typically begin hunting for nearby industrial facilities that perform some metal finishing of some sort.

This test kit functions as a presence/absence test kit and there will not give a quantitative reading upon completion.  The reading obtained, if 'positive', means you will want to have a certified water testing laboratory perform a more involved test that will tell you exactly how much dissolved cyanide your water contains.

'Funniest' reason (so far) given for purchasing this kit:

One woman called and explained that she has had a feud going with a neighbor for quite a while now over tree limbs, car parked in front of her house, noisy dogs, bothersome kids, etc.  In her mind she had convinced herself that the neighbor she had issues with had attempted to poison her in a number of interesting ways and most recently she suspected that the same neighbor had tampered with her well... by pouring cyanide into it.

We never did hear back from the woman after she received (and hopefully used) her cyanide test kit, but we sincerely hope she found no traces of toxins in her water and she and her neighbor have made amends.
